Mountaineers Fall to Defending National Champions and No. 1 Wake Forest, 1-0

Winston-Salem, N.C.- The Appalachian State men's soccer team fell to Wake Forest 1-0 in a non-conference match at W. Dennie Spry Stadium.

The Mountaineers played tough but allowed the only goal of the night when Luke Norman scored an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute from six yards out.

Appalachian started out strong gaining the first two scoring opportunities of the night. In the first three minutes Antonio Harley fed Sean Dreybus on the left side but Dreybus's shot sailed high. Just a few minutes later Paul Pessina sent a long pass to Juan Obregon who sent a shot just wide to the right of the goal.

Wake Forest had a few chances of their own when Zach Schilawski took a shot from the middle of the field from 18 yards out that was turned away by keeper Collin Taylor. Taylor made another nice save when Alfredo Rodriguez broke free, but Taylor slid out to knock the ball away.

Taylor finished the night with eight saves as the Mountaineers were out shot 21-7.

Appalachian drops to 5-2 on the season and travels to Radford on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.
