Boone, N.C.- Arie Muniz scored the games only goal in the 73rd minute to give Appalachian State a 1-0 win over Campbell Saturday evening at the ASU Soccer Stadium.
On the goal, Tanner Chamblin played a ball in the middle of the field to Muniz, who made a give and go with Ryan Maloney down the middle of the field and beat the goalie to his left with a shot on the ground.
It was Muniz's second goal of the season while Maloney picked up his first assist of the season.
Campbell outshot Appalachian 13-6 but freshman goalkeeper Collin Taylor made five saves and recorded his third shutout of the season. Campbell's had a chance early in the game when Justin Madrid got a header on target but Taylor came up with the save. Towards the end of the first half Josue Soto ripped a shot to the upper right corner that Taylor got a piece of to knock out of bounds.
It was another physical contest for the Mountaineers has the teams combined for 27 fouls, three yellow cards and a red card.
With the win Appalachian movesto 5-1 on the season and travels to Wake Forest on Wednesday Sept. 24 to take on the Deamon Deacons at 7 p.m..
