Dreybus Kicks Winner in Overtime

Rock Hill, S.C.- Sean Dreybus scored just two minutes into overtime off an assist from Arie Muniz to give Appalachian a 2-1 win over Winthrop in the Winthrop Classic Sunday afternoon.

Dreybus took a pass from Muniz and took a shot just inside the box beating the goalkeeper to the lower right corner. The overtime win is the Mountaineers second consecutive overtime win as they beat Gardner-Webb in double overtime on Friday. The goal was Dreybus's third goal of the season while Muniz's two assists gives him four on the season. With the win, Appalachian moves to 4-0 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, Winthrop scored first when Daniel Revivo knocked a rebound past Appalachian goalkeeper Collin Taylor. The Mountaineers tied the score just seven minutes later when Muniz played the ball through to Juan Obregon who drilled it past th Winthrop keeper to tie the score at one.

Taylor finished the match with five saves picking up his fourth win of the season.

The Mountaineers were declared the winner of the tournament with their 2-0 record. Dreybus, Steven Sassano, Paul Pessina and Obregon were named to the All-Tournament team while Dreybus was named the offensive MVP.

Appalachian travels to High Point on Wednesday, Sept. 17 to take on the Panthers at 7 p.m.
