Appalachian State Men's Soccer downs Emory & Henry 8-0 in final exhibition game

Arie Muniz had two goals and two assists and Josh Burge had two goals to lead Appalachian State to an 8-0 victory over Emory & Henry Sunday evening.

Burge got the scoring started in the 26th minute when he got a rebound off a Kyle Sims shot and knocked it in the back of the net. ?Muniz got his first of two goals when he got pass from David Rucker and beat the Emory & Henry goalkeeper to give Appalachian a 2-0 lead in the 31st minute.

Muniz got his second goal of the game seven minutes into the second half when he got a pass from Kenny Orelaja on the left side and put a shot past the goalkeeper from 15 yards out from the left side.

Just four minutes later Muniz stole the ball at midfield and gave Antonio Harley a pass in the center of the field as Harley put one past the goalkeeper for the 4-0 lead. ?Muniz again made something happen when he made a centering pass from the goal line to Tony Crocker who put it past the goalkeeper. ?

Burge got the Mountaineers back on the scoreboard in the 73rd minute when he took a pass from Chris Treible in the center of the field and banged it into the net from 15 yards away.

Steven Sassano got into the scoring act when he scored on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute.

In the 84th minute Crocker centered a ball from the left side in front of the goal where Burge knocked it past the goalkeeper to the right post to end the scoring.

Appalachian held a 29-3 shot advantage over the Wasps. ?Daniel Mills had seven Saves for Emory & Henry while Collin Taylor and Drake Branson each had a save for the Mountaineers.

This was the final exhibition game for the Mountaineers as they travel to East Tennessee State for the regular season opener on Friday Aug. 29 at 5 p.m.
