LOS ANGELES - Appalachian State University football head coach
Jerry Mooore and former Mountaineer standouts
Dexter Jackson and
Corey Lynch represented ASU on Wednesday evening at the taping of the 16th-annual ESPY Awards show at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
Produced by ESPN, the ESPYs honor the past year's top performances in sports. Appalachian was one of four nominees in the “Best Upset” category, which was won by the New York Giants for their win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Fresno State baseball claiming the 2008 College World Series and Da'Tara's win in the Belmont Stakes rounded out the Best Upset nominees.
Despite not winning the ESPY, the show featured multiple references to the Mountaineers' 34-32 win over the Michigan in the 2007 season opener, including a line in a song entitled “I Love Sports,” performed by host
Justin Timberlake. The entire show will air on Sunday (July 20) at 9 p.m. on ESPN.
Exclusive photos of the event will be posted at
GoASU.com when the ASU contingent returns to the High Country later this week.
