Armanti Edwards added to his burgeoning all-America resume on Thursday when the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced that the Appalachian State University junior was the first-team quarterback on its 2008 NCAA Division I FCS all-America team.
With the recognition, Edwards has swept first-team quarterback honors on the Walter Camp Football Foundation, Associated Press and AFCA all-America teams. Much like the Walter Camp squad, the AFCA recognizes only one team of 25 players. Edwards is one of only six underclassmen in the group.
Edwards finished the season with 2,902 passing yards, 941 rushing yards and a Southern Conference-record 41 touchdowns responsible for (30 passing, 11 rushing). He ranks second nationally with a 170.19 pass-efficiency rating, seventh with 3,843 yards of total offense and 58th in rushing and was voted the 2008 SoCon Offensive Player of the Year by the league's coaches and media.
He is one of three finalists for the Walter Payton Award, which will be presented to the nation's top FCS player on Thursday evening in Chattanooga, Tenn. Live coverage of the FCS Awards Banquet can be seen beginning at 7 p.m. at
