The Sports Network announced on Monday that full coverage of Thursday's NCAA Division I Football Championship Awards Banquet, which includes the presentation of the Walter Payton, Buck Buchanan and Eddie Robinson Awards, will be broadcast live on
GoASU TV. The free video stream begins at 7 p.m. at
GoASU.com.
Appalachian is one of only two programs with candidates still in the running for the 2008 Payton (top player), Buchanan (top defensive player) and Robinson (top coach) awards in quarterback
Armanti Edwards, safety
Mark LeGree and head coach
Jerry Moore. Edwards finished in the top three in this year's Payton Award voting and will be joined at Thursday's ceremony by fellow finalists Rodney Landers of James Madison and Herb Donaldson of Western Illinois. LeGree is one of 16 finalists on the Buchanan ballot and Moore is one of 20 candidates for the Robinson Award.
Edwards would be the first Mountaineer to ever win the Payton Award, with wide receiver DaVon Fowlkes turning in the Apps' previous best finish in the balloting when he placed third in 2004. LeGree would be ASU's first Buchanan Award recipient since linebacker Dexter Coakley won the first two trophies in 1995 and ?96 while Moore is shooting for his second Robinson Award in three years.
