Appalachian Falls to Elon 2-1

Boone, N.C.- Justin Wyatt scored in the 78th minute to give Elon a 2-1 win over Appalachian State Tuesday night at Appalachian Soccer Stadium.

Wyatt took a pass from Stephen Dilger and took a shot that was saved by Collin Taylor but the rebound was to Taylor's right and Wyatt got the rebound and knocked it in for the game-winner.

Appalachian took the lead in the 21st minute when an Elon defender headed the ball over the goalkeepers head into the goal for an own goal. The Phoenix tied the game seven minutes later when Steven Kinney sent a long pass down the right side to Aaron Parker who scored from 15 yards out to tie the game at one.

In a game that featured only six combined fouls, while each team took double digit shots, Elon taking 19 while the Mountaineers took 11 while Juan Obregon had a team high three.

Taylor made seven saves in goal for Appalachian who falls to 7-4-0 on the season and 2-1 in the Southern Conference while Elon improves to 4-7-1 and 3-0 in the SoCon.

Appalachian hosts Georgia Southern at the Appalachian Soccer Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 12.
