Two Second Half Goals Lift Men's Soccer Over Davidson

Boone, N.C.- Antonio Harley scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 62nd minute to lift Appalachian State over Davidson 2-1 in Southern Conference men's soccer action Sunday afternoon at the Appalachian Soccer Stadium.

With the win Appalachian moves to 9-7 on the season and 3-3 in the SoCon while Davidson falls to 3-12-1 and 1-4 in conference play.

Harley's goal came off a pass from the left side. Harley beat the Davidson keeper to the far right post. The goal is Harley's fourth of the season and all four have been game-winners. Muniz picked up his team leading fifth assist on the goal.

The Mountaineers struck first just six minutes after the break when Juan Obregon scored off a Josh Burge corner kick. Burge's kick was right to Obregon, who headed it past the Davidson keeper to the left side of the goal. The goal was the fifth of the season for Obregon and the first assist of Burge's career.

Davidson got on the board in the 70th minute when Charlie Reiter got a tap pass from Clinton Smith and ripped a shot from the left side of the box past Appalachian keeper Collin Taylor.

Davidson had other chances to tie the score. In the first half, Greg Mcnamara took a shot that was to the left post but Taylor got a hand on it and deflected it over the post. Taylor also did the same thing to a Reiter shot in the second half.

Taylor finished the match with five saves, four in the first half while Davidson keeper Robby Goldsberry finished with seven saves.

The match was the final regular season home game and senior day for Obregon, Paul Pessina, J.T. LaBruyere and Cameron McCarthy. The four were honored, as well as senior student athletic trainer Matt Holman, in a pregame ceremony.

The Mountaineers finish up regular season play on the road at UNC Greensboro on Saturday Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
