BOONE, N.C. ?€“ The Mountaineers used a four-point margin to slide past the Tar Heels, as the Appalachian State University men's cross country finished second of 12 at the 8k Blue Ridge Invitational held at the State Farm Cross Country Course in Boone. The No. 9 Longhorns of Texas ran away with the men's team title, finishing with 15 points.
Texas grabbed seven of the top-10 finishes, led by Erik Stanley in first with a time of 24:31.7, just missing the State Farm course record by six seconds. His teammate, Joe Thorne followed in second with a time of 24:34.4. Dan Wilson of Asics (24:54.7), Corey Duquette (unattached, 24:57.4) and Texas' Lionel Manzano (25:00.5) rounded out the top five.
Appalachian finished with 86 points, edging out North Carolina in third with 90. High Point (125 points) and Mars Hill (132 points) rounded out the top five.

Adam Van Nortwick (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) with a 13th place finish (25:29.4). Fellow Mountaineer
Mark Maddox (Asheville, N.C.) joined him in the top-20, finishing 18th in a time of 25:42.3.
The Mountaineers close out home competition Saturday, hosting the State Farm Open at 9 a.m. The 5k run is open to the public. Anyone wanting to participate is welcome to run.
