BUIES CREEK, N.C. -Appalachian State senior pitcher Jennifer Hurley threw a no-hitter Monday afternoon in leading the Mountaineers to a 2-0 win at Campbell in the first game of a doubleheader. The Camels' Lauren Caviness tossed a no-hitter of her own in game two to lead Campbell to a 1-0 victory. Hurley, a senior from Asheboro, N.C., improved to 4-13 on the season allowing only three Camels to reach base in the extra inning affair. She fanned 13 opposing hitters in nine innings of work. CU's left-hander Caviness, was perfect thru 6 1/3 innings of game two before ASU's Diana Cook struckout, but reached on a pass ball. Caviness, a native of nearby Fuquay-Varina, N.C., then, got Lindsay Glover to pop-up and Kristyn Hurt to strikeout to end the game. Caviness finished the game with six strikeouts and with the win the Harnett Central product improves to 8-4 on the 2005 campaign. In the opener, Appalachian State's (15-28) Glover plated the game-winner with an RBI triple that scored Cook. Hurt provided the Mountaineers with an insurance run with a single that scored Glover from third. Glover led ASU in game one going 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, while also notching her seventh consecutive multi-hit game. Lexi Myers (9-9) suffered the loss in the opener tossing three innings in relief. She allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and fanned three Mountaineers. Campbell (24-20) starter Kelly Weaver gave-up four hits, walked one and retired five on strikes in six innings of work. The Mountaineers stranded six, while Campbell left just two on base in game one. In the nightcap, Campbell's Megan Paul drove home Stephenie Pappas with a two out single in the bottom of the fourth for the game's only run. Pappas reached on a double for her second hit of the contest. Jessica Huffman also finished 2-for-3 with a double and added a stolen base in the opening inning for the Fighting Camels in game two. Appalachian State ace Keri Blackwelder fell to 8-7 on the season with the loss. She threw a complete game allowing one run on six hits, walked one while striking out nine. Like the Mountaineers' in the opener, Campbell finished game two with six hits and stranded six baserunners. Appalachian returns to Boone to host North Carolina A&T Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in a doubleheader at the Watauga County Complex.
