BOONE, N.C. – App State Volleyball lost its second match of the Mountaineer Classic to North Florida with set scores of 25-16, 25-14, 24-26, 25-27, 11-15.

The Mountaineers (4-5, 0-0 SBC) dominated the first set by margins as high as nine points. App State tallied 15 kills in the first set on a .394 hitting percentage while holding North Florida to a .114 hitting percentage.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with the Mountaineers going on a five-point scoring run in the middle of the set and finishing on a six-point run. Bella Hutchens recorded five of the Mountaineers' 14 kills, as App State held North Florida to a .103 hitting percentage.

The Ospreys found their groove in the third set and tallied 18 kills on a .302 hitting percentage. The Mountaineers held their own with 14 kills but couldn't finish.

North Florida caught an early run in the fourth set, but the Mountaineers were able to catch up at 13-13. Both teams continued to trade points before the Ospreys edged the Mountaineers 27-25.

Heading into the decisive fifth set, North Florida was on a two-set run. Despite App State going on an early five-point run, the Ospreys were able to catch up and close out the set on their own five-point run.

Hutchens finished the match with 16 kills, two aces and 17 digs. Other stat leaders were Nevaeh Hays with nine total blocks, Raegan Richardson with 50 assists and MeMe Davis with 30 digs. 

The Mountaineers will close tournament play on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Western Carolina.
