ATLANTA – Despite a career start from
Conner Barozzino, App State Baseball was unable to build on its early advantage, falling 3-2 to Georgia State in the 2026 regular season finale on Saturday at the GSU Baseball Complex.
Following a program-best finish in the Sun Belt standings, the Mountaineers (30-22, 17-13) will head to the Sun Belt tournament as the No. 3 seed and open play on Wednesday at 10 a.m. ET.
Jalen Seward gave App State a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, blasting a two-run home run to left field for his fourth home run of the season to score
Kameron Miller who reached on a one-out single. Miller and
Charlie Evans each finished with two-hit efforts with Evans reaching base all four times up.
The Mountaineers were unable to produce any other offense in the game, going just 1-for-12 with runners on base for the game. The team was limited to just six hits.
Barozzino, who had not thrown more than two innings in an outing this season, fired a career-high five innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out two. The lone run he allowed came as a Cole Griffith solo homer to center field in the fifth.
Everette Harris tossed a scoreless inning in the sixth, completing an inning ending 3-6-1 double play, for the Mountaineers' third double play of the game.
However, the defense faltered down the stretch, committing three errors for the game and two in the final two defensive innings, with each leading to a run.
Harris suffered the tough luck loss despite not allowing an earned run in three innings of work. App State pitching combined to allow just four hits in the ballgame.
