CULLOWHEE, N.C. – App State Baseball was unable to overcome a big bottom of the third inning from Western Carolina in a 14-4 loss to the Catamounts in seven innings on Tuesday at Hennon Stadium.
The Catamounts (24-14, 6-3) scored ten runs in the third inning, hitting three home runs and taking advantage of a pair of App State (19-16, 7-8) errors to go in front 13-2.
Despite the loss,
Charlie Evans extended his hitting streak to 19 consecutive games with a bunt single in the fourth inning. He also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Jake Mummau led the offense with a 2-for-4 effort, putting App State on the board with an RBI double to score
Jalen Seward in the second inning and plating
Kameron Miller with an RBI single in the fourth.
JJ Garcia impressed out of the App State bullpen, tossing three scoreless innings and facing the minimum, while collecting a strikeout.
The Catamounts won the contest on a walk-off home run from Jackson Godfrey with one out in the seventh inning.
App State will look to bounce back this weekend as the team travels to Harrisonburg, Va. for a three-game series against James Madison.
