BOONE, N.C. —In its first outdoor action in Boone this season, the App State tennis team defeated Davidson 5-2 on Thursday for its second consecutive victory.
Naledi Manyube clinched the match at No. 2 for the Mountaineers (5-6), winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. The win snapped a three-match losing streak for the George, South Africa, native.
No. 8
Savannah Dada-Mascoll extended her win streak to nine matches with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1, helping App State secure its first win over Davidson (5-3) since 2023.
How It Happened
The Mountaineers opened the day by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, marking the fifth consecutive match in which App State has taken the early lead. The freshman duo of
Sreenidhi Balaji and
Allegra Hodson rallied from a 3-2 deficit to win 6-3 at No. 3 to secure the point.
Hodson carried the momentum into singles, putting the Mountaineers on the board first at No. 4. Her 6-2, 6-2 win broke a two-match skid and improved her singles record to 6-3 on the season.
Despite a loss at No. 5, Dada-Mascoll and Manyube remained steady, finishing minutes apart to earn the third and fourth points needed to clinch the dual-match victory.
With the match already decided, Balaji prevailed at No. 6. After dropping the first set, she won the second 7-5 to force a tiebreaker, where she won 12-10 after trading points until the 10-10 mark.

The Mountaineers remain in the High Country to host VCU on Friday. First serve at the App State Tennis Courts at the Appalachian 105 Complex is scheduled for 11 a.m.
