BOONE, N.C. — The App State tennis team fell 5-2 in its return to the High Country against Marshall on Saturday. Prior to the match, Court 3 was dedicated to Pam Cook for her contributions to App State Tennis.
Ninth-ranked
Savannah Dada-Mascoll continued her dominance in singles, completing her 13th consecutive win in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. She has dropped only two sets during the streak, most recently losing the first set in a tiebreaker against UT Arlington on Feb. 28 before rallying to win the match.
How It Happened
App State (6-9) conceded the doubles point for the second match in a row, with
Ruby Broadbent and
Naledi Manyube picking up the sole doubles win for the Mountaineers, 6-2.
Entering singles at a one-point deficit,
Alexi Cleveland finished first, picking up her first win since Feb. 14 at Mercer in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to tie the match at 1-1.
Despite the No. 1 win from Dada-Mascoll, losses at Nos. 3 and 4 put the Mountaineers in a 3-2 hole, one match away from the clinch. Manyube fell at No. 2 to clinch the win for Marshall (9-7), before Broadbent fell at No. 5 for the final 5-2 margin.
