ARLINGTON, Texas — The App State tennis team snapped a four-match losing streak Saturday, defeating UT Arlington 5-2.
Ruby Broadbent clinched the victory for the Mountaineers (4-6) at the No. 4 spot, rallying to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 after dropping the opening set. The win provided a breakthrough for an App State squad that had seen three out of its last four matches decided by a single set with the score tied at 3-3.
Savannah Dada-Mascoll kept her personal winning streak alive, overcoming a 4-2 deficit in the third set of her match. Following Broadbent's clinch, Dada-Mascoll won five of the next six games to secure her eighth straight individual victory and move to 9-1 on the season.
How It Happened
The Mountaineers opened the match by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, marking the fourth consecutive match in which App State has taken the doubles point. The duo of Broadbent and
Naledi Manyube secured the point with a 6-1 win over UT Arlington (2-8).
Taya Powell opened singles play with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 to push the lead to 2-0.
Sreenidhi Balaji then picked up her second win of the season at No. 6 to extend the Mountaineer advantage to 3-0.
After losses at No. 5 and No. 2 cut the lead to 3-2, Broadbent took control, winning five of the next seven games in her deciding set to seal the overall match for App State. The win was Broadbent's fifth of the season and her second in a row.
Up Next
The Mountaineers return to the High Country to play rescheduled matches against Davidson on Thursday at 1 p.m., followed by a matchup against VCU on Friday at 11 a.m. Matches will take place at the App State Tennis Courts at the Appalachian 105 Complex, weather permitting.
The 2025-26 season is presented by Hound Ears Club.
