WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The App State tennis team fell to Wake Forest 4-2 on Sunday.
How It Happened
The Mountaineers (3-5) opened the match by clinching the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
Savannah Dada-Mascoll and
Taya Powell triumphed 6-3, earning their third straight win. The freshman duo of
Sreenidhi Balaji and
Allegra Hodson also earned its second straight victory, securing the doubles point with a 6-4 win.
In singles play, App State jumped to a 2-0 lead after ninth-ranked Dada-Mascoll won in straight sets at the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-3 for her sixth consecutive win. She holds a 6-1 singles record this season, with her only loss coming against then-ranked No. 23 Ange Oby Kajuru (now ranked No. 6) of North Carolina in the season opener.
Wake Forest (7-4) regained momentum with wins on courts 2, 4 and 5, leaving the Mountaineers trailing 3-2. Balaji and Hodson held the two remaining matches. While Balaji held a 3-2 lead in a tiebreaking set, Hodson fell 7-5 in her second set after rallying from a 5-4 deficit, clinching the match for the Demon Deacons.
Up Next
The Mountaineers travel to Texas to face Tarleton State on Friday, followed by a matchup against UT Arlington on Saturday. Friday's match is scheduled for noon, while Saturday's is slated for 10 a.m.
