MACON, Ga. — The App State women's tennis team fell in a 4-3 thriller to Mercer on Saturday.
Despite conceding the doubles point early, the Mountaineers rallied to tie the match at 3-3. The contest ultimately came down to a tiebreaking set on Court 2, where Mercer narrowly prevailed to clinch the victory.
How It Happened
The Mountaineers began their second stop in Georgia by dropping matches on Courts 2 and 3 in doubles play. The duo of
Savannah Dada-Mascoll and
Taya Powell secured a 6-4 win on Court 1, but Mercer headed into singles play with a 1-0 lead.
Dada-Mascoll quickly leveled the score for App State, earning her fourth win of the season with a dominant 6-4, 6-0 performance at the No. 1 spot.
After losses on Courts 3 and 5 left the Mountaineers facing a 3-1 deficit,
Allegra Hodson sparked a comeback on Court 4. She picked up her fourth win of the year in straight sets, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.
Alexi Cleveland then tied the overall match at 3-3, outlasting her opponent in a three-set battle, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, on Court 6.
The final result rested on Court 2.
Naledi Manyube fought back to win the second set 7-6 (7-4) to keep the Mountaineers' hopes alive, but Mercer ultimately took the deciding set to secure the fourth and final point.

App State returns to the High Country to host Austin Peay on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the App State Tennis Courts at the Appalachian 105 Complex.
