BOONE, N.C. – App State sophomore
Tyler Figueroa has been named the Sun Belt Baseball Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Figueroa's honor is the second weekly award garnered by App State Baseball this season, after
Caleb Marks was named the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week on March 11.
In four games for the Mountaineers last week, Figueroa went 8-for-19 (.421) at the plate, with a double, three home runs, 10 RBIs and five runs scored.
Figueroa blasted a grand slam on Sunday as part of a seven-run third inning to help App State earn a series victory at ULM. He also hit a three-run homer in a midweek contest at Western Carolina and belted a solo shot in Friday's series opener in Monroe, La.
The Colonie, N.Y., native has now reached base safely in 19 consecutive games, while playing at four different defensive positions for the Mountaineers this season.
Figueroa is batting .306 on the year with 10 doubles, six home runs and 29 RBIs. He has worked 22 walks this season, which is tied for ninth in the Sun Belt. He is the only Mountaineer to start in all 31 games.
A transfer from Siena, Figueroa was named to the MAAC All-Rookie team in 2024, leading the team in batting average and RBIs as a freshman. He was also named the MAAC Rookie of the Week four times.
The Mountaineers return to action Wednesday as the team hosts Western Carolina at 5 p.m. at Smith Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
