App State Outslugged by High Point, Tuesday

HIGH POINT, N.C. – App State Baseball slugged four home runs, but came up short in the team's first road contest of the season, falling 13-7 to High Point on Tuesday at Williard Stadium. The loss snapped the Mountaineers' six-game winning streak in the head-to-head series.

Tyler Figueroa led the Mountaineers (1-3) at the plate, belting a pair of home runs and finishing with three hits and three RBIs on the night. Joseph Zamora also tallied a three-hit game for App State.

High Point (5-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back home runs from Brayden Simpson and Landen Johnson.

The Panthers added three more runs with a five-hit second inning to extend their advantage to 6-0. High Point finished the contest with 20 hits.

The Mountaineers responded with the long ball in the third. Tyler Lichtenberger singled to lead off the inning and with two outs in the frame, Figueroa launched his first home run of the game to get the Mountaineers on the scoreboard. John Kramer made it back-to-back home runs for App State, with an opposite field shot for his second home run of the season, cutting the deficit to 6-3.

High Point countered with another set of back-to-back homers in the fourth, with Johnson going deep for the second time in the game and Three Hillier following with a solo shot as part of a four-run frame to extend the Panther advantage to 10-3.

The Mountaineers continued to claw their way back in the fifth. Figueroa blasted his second home run of the contest, notching a two-homer game for the second time in his career. Two batters later Kameron Miller crushed a homer over the batter's eye in center field for his second home run of the year, trimming the deficit to 10-5.
The team's then alternated runs across the next five half-innings.

Freshman Conner Barozzino made his collegiate debut in relief of Cody Little on the mound. Barozzino gave up two earned runs over 2.2 innings of work and recorded a pair of strikeouts in the outing. Jordan Fisher fired a scoreless eighth inning for App State.

Despite allowing 20 hits, the App State pitching staff conceded just three walks in the contest.

The Mountaineers will return to action with a three-game weekend series against UMass Lowell at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory. First pitch Friday is set for 3 p.m., with the middle game on Saturday set for 2 p.m. The series concludes on Sunday, with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. in the finale. All three games will be streamed on AppStateSports.com.
