MUNCIE, Ind. — The App State field hockey team defeated Ball State 3-1 on Friday.
Sophia Baxter,
Lise Boekaar and
Hadley Kuzmicky all scored for the Mountaineers against the Cardinals, with Baxter and Boekaar both notching their 12th goals of the season.
How It Happened
1st: The Mountaineers (12-4, 5-2 MAC) came out aggressively, with Boekaar scoring the first goal of the game less than six minutes into the contest, assisted by
Bridget Donovan. Baxter followed up at the end of the period off a penalty corner, giving the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead heading into the second.
2nd: Ball State (4-14, 2-6 MAC) scored its lone goal of the game, coming at the end of the first half. Despite four Mountaineer penalty corners and forcing six saves from the Cardinals, App State failed to convert in the period, heading into the halftime break leading 2-1.
3rd: App State controlled possession coming out of halftime, outshooting the Cardinals 7-3 in the period. Following a run from
Sarah Perkins, Kuzmicky scored her eighth goal of the season to give the Mountaineers a two-score cushion going into the final period.
4th: The Mountaineers continued to apply pressure to close out the game, forcing three saves and generating two corners. App State finished the game outshooting Ball State 27-8, and earning a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners in the 3-1 road conference victory.
