BOONE, N.C. — The App State field hockey team fell to No. 17 UMass, 3-0, on Sunday. Despite the loss, the Mountaineers have clinched a spot in the 2025 MAC Field Hockey Championship.
Goalkeeper
Claire Grenis had a superb outing, tallying 12 saves in the match. The Mountaineers (11-4, 5-2) were unable to find the back of the net, resulting in the loss.
How It Happened
1st: The period was scoreless for both teams. Grenis made two saves to keep the Minutewomen off the board.
2nd: UMass scored twice to take a 2-0 lead. Grenis added three more saves to her total before the halftime break. The defense also successfully earned a defensive save by
Sophia Baxter.
3rd: The Mountaineer defense continued to hold its ground, preventing any goals. Grenis was tested heavily, adding five more saves to her game total.
4th: UMass added its final goal in the period, making the score 3-0. The Mountaineers earned their first and only penalty corner of the game, with
Lise Boekaar taking the lone shot of the game off the set piece.
