BOONE, N.C. — Six App State wrestlers have been named 2024 NWCA Division I Scholar All-Americans.
The national list includes Chad Bellis (125), Ethan Oakley (133), Cody Bond (149), Tommy Askey (157), Nicholas Grizales (157/165) and Tomas Brooker (184).
In the last five seasons, head coach JohnMark Bentley's program has totaled 23 NWCA Scholar All-Americans.
To be eligible, student-athletes must have a 3.0 GPA and be an NCAA All-American, have a 3.2 GPA and be an NCAA Championships qualifier or have a 3.5 GPA and either have represented the team at the conference tournament or won 60 percent of their matches during the season (with at least 15 matches).
Oakley, Bond, Askey and Brooker were all NCAA qualifiers with a GPA of at least 3.2, with three of those wrestlers having a GPA above 3.5. Bellis, the 125-pound starter with a 23-14 season record, and Grizales, who went 12-7, both have GPAs higher than 3.5.
