ARLINGTON, Texas – The App State offense was kept off balance in their final road contest of the season, as the Mountaineers tallied just four hits in a, 7-0, loss to UT Arlington on Sunday.
The Mountaineers (18-29, 9-18) still do come away with the series win, taking two of three from the Mavericks (15-36, 7-20), and are just a win away from securing a spot in the Sun Belt tournament.
Jason Cornatzer suffered the loss, despite yielding just one earned run over four innings, while striking out five. The Mavericks did plate a pair of unearned runs against him in the third inning, after scoring one in the home half of the first.
UT Arlington scored a run in the sixth and three in the seventh, tallying 13 hits in the ballgame, after the Mountaineers held them to just one hit in Saturday's win.
Dalton Williams led App State with a two-hit game offensively, but all four Mountaineer hits were singles, and they were unable to take advantage of four hit batsmen, stranding eight men on base in the ballgame.
App State will close out the regular season next week at home, beginning Tuesday at 6 p.m. when they welcome Wake Forest to Boone, for the second game of a home-and-home series this year. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+. The 2022 App State Baseball season is presented by Chick-fil-A.
