App State Set to Host Furman on Tuesday Night

BOONE, N.C. -- App State men's basketball is set for its sixth home game of the season against Furman on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+, along with live stats and listening options.

THE SERIES

  • This will be the 88th meeting between the two schools in a series that the Paladins lead 48-39. Furman came out on top a year ago, winning 73-65 in Greenville, S.C.
  • The Mountaineers last defeated former Southern Conference foe on Mar. 9, 2013 in the first round of the SoCon tournament.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS (5-2, 0-0 SBC)
  • The Mountaineers are 3-2 at the Holmes Center with home wins over Southeastern Louisiana, N.C. Central and Warren Wilson this season.
  • Dibaji Walker has been a spark plug in the last two games for the Black & Gold, scoring 17 and 12 in the wins while shooting a combined 12-18 from the field. Last Wednesday, Walker earned the SportsCenter No. 1 play for a ferocious dunk over an ETSU player in the second half during an App State run. Walker scored all 12 of his points in the last 14 minutes to help lift the Mountaineers over the Buccaneers.
  • Donovan Gregory has stepped into a new leadership role this season, pacing the team in points, assists and steals. The senior from Charlotte, N.C. had a 16-point outing in App State's win over Louisville and a season-high 21 against Campbell. His scoring average of 14.6 is significantly higher than his previous career high of 10.9 (last season). Gregory has made his last 19 free throws, going 8-8 in each of the last two games with three straight prior.
SCOUTING THE PALADINS (4-2, 0-0 SoCon)
  • The Paladins are 4-2 this season with wins over North Greenville, Belmont, South Carolina and Tusculum. Furman dropped two five-point contests to Penn State and Sun Belt member Old Dominion.
  • Furman is ranked No. 12 in Collegeinsider's Mid Major Top 25. Last week, the squad was ranked No. 3.
  • All-conference guard Mike Bothwell has had a hot start to the season, averaging just under 20 ppg. while shooting 57% from the field for Furman.
  • Jalen Slawson is averaging 15.8 points to go along with a team-leading 6.5 rebounds. Slawson earned double-doubles this season against Belmont and Tusculum.
  • In total, the Paladins have four players that average double figures, with Marcus Foster and Tyrese Hughey averaging 10.3 points apiece.
