TOWSON, Md. – App State Field Hockey won their first game of the season against Towson on Sunday at the Towson University Field Hockey Complex. The score was 3-1.
Sophomore forward Peyton Ritchey scored her first goal of the season in the third quarter to tie the game at 1 point a piece after a scoreless first half for the Mountaineers.
Within the next three minutes, freshman midfielder
Sterre Molkenboer scored two more goals to complete a 3-0 quarter for the Mountaineers after trailing in the first half. Her second goal was assisted by junior midfielder
Pauline Mangold.
App State finished with 20 shots, 16 of which were on goal. Molkenboer led the way on offense with two goals and six shots on goal out of seven shots.
On defense, the Mountaineers held the Tigers to nine shots and seven that were on target.
Addie Clark finished the game with six saves and just one goal allowed. She now has 10 saves on the season.
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday at noon when they will visit Wake Forest. The Mountaineers' first home game will be against James Madison on Friday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.
