BOONE, N.C. - App State Field Hockey secured a 2-1 victory against Queens University in its second and final exhibition game Sunday.
Senior Anna Smarrelli recorded the first goal of the day for the Mountaineers as both squads entered halftime tied at one apiece. Freshman Charlotte Bosma scored the go-ahead and winning goal in the second half to lift App State to victory. Bosma has now scored in both exhibition games entering regular-season play.
Both teams agreed to play an extra 10-minute overtime session Sunday in which the Mountaineers rattled off three straight goals, led by
Rachel Fleig with two and one more from Bosma.
App State will now set its focus on the season opener this Saturday against Georgetown at 2 p.m in Towson, Maryland.
