BOONE, N.C. - App State Field Hockey will hold a preseason exhibition game against Wake Forest this Thursday, Aug.19, at 6 p.m., from the Brandon and Erica M. Adcock Field in Boone.
The Mountaineers enter the 2021 fall season with 10 new freshmen and 15 returning players, including seniors
Anna Smarrelli,
Friederike Stegen,
Sydney Lee and
Brenna Schoenbachler.
Stegen is coming off her second consecutive all-conference selection last season, when she tied her season high for goals and moved up to second on App State's all-time assists leaderboard.
Pauline Mangold,
Grace Ball and
Carli Ciocco are also returning after helping lead the Mountaineers in scoring last year.
Seventh-year head coach
Meghan Dawson is looking forward to the team's first exhibition.
"I'm super excited about the opportunity to play against someone who is not in our conference," Dawson said. "Playing against Wake is always a really good opportunity for us because it allows us to grow, get some video and see what we have to work on before all the games start counting."
Wake Forest is looking to improve upon its 6-11 record from last year.
After Thursday, App State will have one more home exhibition on Sunday (1 p.m. vs. Queens University) before its first regular-season game against Georgetown next Saturday in Towson, Md.
