BOONE, N.C. - App State women's basketball senior
Lainey Gosnell was named to the CoSIDA Women's Basketball Academic All-District Division 3 First Team, as the organization announced on Thursday.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve who has participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions and is at least a sophomore both academically and athletically.
Gosnell has been just as successful off the court as she was on it. The Demorest, Ga., native is currently earning her master's degree in clinical mental health counseling after receiving her bachelor's degree in psychology in three years. She boasts a 4.0 GPA, while twice being named to the Sun Belt Academic Honor Roll in 2017 and 2018 and the Sun Belt Commissioner's List in 2019.
She moves on to the Academic All-America ballot, which will be announced later this month.
This past season, Gosnell put forth the best campaign of her career. She finished second on the team in scoring, averaging a career-high 12.1 points and grabbed a personal and team-high 7.6 rebounds per contest. Her 39 3-pointers were second on the squad, while her impressive numbers led to an All-Sun Belt Second Team nod.
She went down in the history books 15th all-time with 1,208 points and third all-time with 166 3-pointers.
