App State Dominates Central Michigan 6-1 in Bounce-Back Win

Box Score BOONE, N.C. - Six different goal scorers surged App State field hockey past Central Michigan 6-1 in a bounce-back conference win Sunday. App State improved to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in Mid-American Conference play with the win.

"I'm proud of their character that I know that they have all the time, but just being able to demonstrate that on the field today was the biggest come away victory for our group," head coach Meghan Dawson said.

Friederike Stegen, Meghan Smart, Pauline Mangold, Grace Ball, Veerle Van Heertum and Chloe Bell each found the back of the cage Sunday. Bell's sliding goal in the third highlighted the spreading of the wealth by the Mountaineers.

App State scored two goals in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth. Six goals marked the most goals scored in a single-game win by the Mountaineers since 2018 and the largest win since 2017.

Talayna Viscuso earned the start in goal Sunday as the Mountaineer defense held Central Michigan to a single shot. The Chippewas capitalized on their only opportunity off of a corner attempt goal scored by Lauren Bluffington.

Central Michigan's lone goal occurred in the waning seconds of the second period cut App State's lead to 2-1 at the break. App State outshot Central Michigan 17-1 Sunday and 48-8 for the weekend.

The Mountaineers will be back in action March 26-27 for a two-game road series at Kent State. Kent State was picked to finish second in the 2021 MAC Field Hockey Preseason Poll.
