BOONE, N.C. - App State field hockey welcomes Saint Louis in a nonconference battle Monday starting at 11 a.m. at Brandon and Erica M. Adcock Field.
The Mountaineers split with Mid-American Conference foe Ball State this weekend to improve to 1-1 in the MAC and 1-2 overall. Monday's matchup against Saint Louis, which will be live streamed on Twitch, will mark the third of six straight home event for App State in the month of March.
"We're really excited to get back out on the field once again tomorrow," head coach Megan Dawson said. "Saint Louis is a good team that will challenge our group both physically and mentally. We've played two tough back-to-back games, and I'm excited to see our group challenged."
The Mountaineer-Billiken duel will be just the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs. App State holds a 4-0 all-time series lead over Saint Louis dating back to 2012. Three of the four meetings have been decided by one goal with the last meeting occurring in 2019.
Saint Louis enters play 3-3 on the spring season with a win over Lindenwood and two wins over Bellarmine. On Saturday, the Billikens dropped their third straight game, 3-1 at Davidson. However, Saint Louis is averaging 2.33 goals per game and have three shutout wins to their resume.
One item to watch Monday is
Friederike Stegen's career assist numbers. Stegen was credited with an assist in Saturday's 1-0 shutout victory over Ball state and is now only two assists away from tying Bridgette Burkhardt (18) for second all-time in career assists in program history.
After Saint Louis, the Mountaineers will enjoy four off days before hosting MAC opponent Central Michigan on March 20 and 21.
