BOONE, N.C. - App State women's soccer earned its first win of the spring with a 1-0 triumph over Davidson on Thursday evening at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
The Mountaineers improve to 6-10-1 on the season while Davidson drops to 1-1. App State has won the last five meetings against the Wildcats in the series.
All the Apps needed was an
Olivia Cohen penalty goal for her second score of the season. Cohen fired in the strike in the 60th minute of the contest.
Davidson's Hailey Braemer's shot on goal in the 67th minute was stopped by
Kerry Eagleston for her only save of the match. The majority of Davidson's attempts were blocked, while three of the Mountaineers' four shots were on target.
Emma McGibany led the team with a pair of shot attempts with one on frame in the second half.
Eagleston recorded her sixth clean sheet of the season, putting her in a tied for second in program history for shutouts in a season.
Neither team scored in the first half despite a clean look by
Jordan Grigsby in the 41st minute.
App State returns to action on Saturday, March 13 against Marshall at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex at 3:30 p.m.
