BOONE, N.C. - App State women's soccer fell to Marshall in a 2-1 setback on Saturday afternoon at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex. App State falls to 6-11-1 while Marshall improves to 2-2 on the season.
Both teams wouldn't find the back of the net until the final 21 minutes of the match when all three goals were scored, starting at the 79th minute.Â
Marshall struck first to take a 1-0 lead after Abi Hughes scored off a deflected save by
Jazz Salters. App State scored eight minutes later to tie up the match thanks to
Lauren Murphy's score off a
Hayley Boyles assist.Â
It was the first goal for Murphy in a Black and Gold uniform, while Boyles came away with her first helper of the season.Â
However, the visitors scored the final goal just moments later when Hughes found the net for a second time to give Marshall the 2-1 lead and the eventual victory.Â
App State attempted 10 shots on the day, with four coming on goal.
Ana Moleka had a perfect opportunity to give App State the lead in the 68th minute when she fired a strike that went off the left post.
Katie Fuller's shot that came off Moleka's attempt just went right of the goal.Â
Jazz Salters made her first collegiate start between the posts, playing all 90 minutes and making five stops.Â
App State outshot Marshall, 10-9, and held a 10-2 advantage in corners.Â
The Apps will end the spring with a March 27 matchup against South Carolina in Columbia.Â
