BOONE, N.C. -- App State volleyball dropped its home finale to Coastal Carolina on Thursday evening.
McCall Denny and
Victoria Wilform tallied 12 kills apiece for the Mountaineers (7-20, 3-12 SBC). Denny finished with six digs, while Wilform tallied four.
Daryn Armstrong added eight kills on a .312 hitting mark, while
Lulu Ambrose tallied seven kills.
Sam Bickley had 26 assists and seven digs, while
Emma Reilly tallied 13 digs.
With the score tied at 8-8 in the first set, App State scored four of the next five points, getting two kills from Wilform along the way, to take a 12-9 lead. Coastal Carolina (17-8, 11-4 SBC) battled back to take a 17-16 lead. App State extended its lead to 22-19 late, but the Chanticleers stormed back with six straight points to take the opening set 25-22.
In Set 2, Coastal Carolina jumped out to a 9-3 lead and pushed its edge to 18-8. From there, App State answered with six straight points to pull within four points at 18-14. The Mountaineers trimmed the Chanticleer lead to four two more times in the set, but fell by a 25-19 count.
In the third set, the Mountaineers used a block solo from
Caroline Reeder to jump out to a 9-7 advantage. The Chanticleers answered with the next three points to take a 10-9 lead and opened a 16-13 edge later in the frame. The Chanticleers extended their lead to 21-17, but App State pulled within a point at 23-22 on a service ace from Wilform. From there, the Chanticleers used a kill and a Mountaineer attack error to capture the set and victory.
The two teams will meet again in the regular season finale on Sunday in Conway. First serve is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
