MOBILE, Ala. -- App State volleyball dropped a 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-21) road decision at Sun Belt East Division leader South Alabama on Friday evening.
Victoria Wilform paced the Mountaineers (7-16, 3-8 SBC) with a march-high 12 kills. She added six digs and a pair of block assists.
Madison Baldridge added eight kills and
Lulu Ambrose chipped in with five kills.
Sam Bickley dished out 25 assists, while adding four digs and a pair of kills.
Emma Reilly had 11 digs to pace App State, with
Morgan Flores also adding six.
In the opening set, South Alabama (18-6, 11-1 SBC) broke a 6-6 tie with three straight points. The Jaguars used a 4-0 run later in the set to open a 16-9 lead en route to a 25-16 opening set victory.
Set 2 saw the Jaguars jump out to a 5-1 edge. South Alabama never trailed and took the second frame by a 25-13 count.
In the third frame, App State took an early 6-1 lead, capped by a Jaguar attack error. South Alabama pulled within two points at 9-7, before the Mountaineers used a kill from
Daryn Armstrong and a kill from Baldridge to push their lead back to 11-7. A kill from Wilform gave the Black and Gold a 15-10 lead later in the set. From there, South Alabama won 13 of the next 17 points to open a 23-19 edge. South Alabama went on to win the set 25-21 to clinch the match.
Hannah Maddux paced the Jaguars with 12 kills and Maddie Soboleski added 10 kills.
App State will have a quick turnaround and will take on Troy on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. ESTÂ on ESPN+.
