TROY, Ala. – App State volleyball fell at Troy (25-23, 25-20, 25-23) on Saturday evening.
Victoria Wilform paced the Mountaineers (7-17, 3-9 SBC) for the second straight night with a team leading 11 kills.
Lulu Ambrose added nine kills on a .294 hitting percentage and
Daryn Armstrong tallied six kills and hit .545. Wilform has now reached double figures in kills in three straight contests and has posted 10 or more kills 13 times this season.
Defensively,
Emma Reilly had nine digs and
Morgan Flores added seven.
Anna Kincaid tallied four total blocks.
Sam Bickley dished out 14 assists and
Sophie Cain finished with 13 assists.
In the opening set, Troy (15-9, 8-5 SBC) jumped out to a 9-5 lead, only to see the Mountaineers answer with four straight points to tie the score at 9-9. Later in the set, App State used a Wilform kill and Trojan attack error to take a 17-15 lead. Troy came back with the next three points to retake the lead. The Trojans opened a 23-21 lead, before a Trojan service ace and block assists from Kincaid and Wilform allowed the Mountaineers to tie the set. From there, Troy won the next two points to win the opening set 25-23.
The Trojans took a 12-11 lead midway through the second set. But the Mountaineers answered with four straight points, capped by a service ace from
Alexis Hardison to take a 15-12 advantage. Troy answered with three straight points to tie the set. App State found themselves leading 19-18, before the Trojans used a 5-0 run to take a 23-19 lead. The Trojans went on to win the set 25-20 for a 2-0 lead.
Troy used a 3-0 run to take a 10-7 edge in Set 3. Trailing 19-17, the Mountaineers went on a 5-0 run to open a 22-19 advantage late in the frame. From there, the Trojans scored six of the final seven points to win the set 25-23 and clinch the match.
App State will return to the High Country next weekend. The Mountaineers welcome Georgia State on Nov. 5 at. 6:30 p.m. on Senior Night and Georgia Southern on Nov. 7 at 12:30 p.m. Both contests will be broadcast on ESPN+.
