BOONE, N.C. -- App State volleyball posted a dominant 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-9) sweep of ULM on Sunday afternoon in the Holmes Convocation Center.
The Mountaineers (7-13, 3-5 SBC) hit a sizzling .468 in the match, recording 44 kills against just eight errors on 77 tries. The .468 hitting mark is a new season-best for App State and is the best percentage since the Black and Gold hit .517 in a three set victory over UT Arlington on October 10, 2015.
In addition, the Mountaineers defense was tough, limiting the Warhawks (5-19, 1-8 SBC) to just a .048 hitting mark. App State held ULM to a negative hitting percentage in both the first set (-.130) and third set (-.033).
McCall Denny paced the App State offense with 12 kills and a .458 hitting percentage. She added four digs and a pair of block assists.
Anna Kincaid hit .769 with 10 kills on 13 attempts, with zero errors. She had a pair of block solos and a block assist.
Lulu Ambrose registered seven kills with zero errors on eight attempts to finish with a .875 hitting mark. Both
Daryn Armstrong and
Victoria Wilform had six kills each.
Sophie Cain dished out 39 assists, while adding three digs and a pair of service aces.
Emma Reilly reached double figures in digs with 19, to go along with a pair of service aces.
In the opening set, App State scored the first five points and opened a 13-4 lead off a Warhawk attack error. The Mountaineers led by as many as 14 points and a kill from Denny capped the opening set for the Mountaineers by a 25-11 count.
Set 2 saw App State break an early 4-4 tie on a kill from Wilform and Denny. ULM tied the score at 8-8, but the Mountaineers answered with a 14-2 run, scoring nine consecutive points at one point, to take a 22-10 lead. Wilform closed out the set with a kill to give the Mountaineers a 2-0 advantage.
The Mountaineers took control of Set 3 early, building an 8-1 lead. App State closed out the set on a 5-0 run to clinch the set 25-9 and finish off the sweep.
App State will hit the road for four consecutive matches, beginning on Friday evening at UT Arlington at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN+.
