ARLINGTON, Tex. – App State volleyball dropped a 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-19) decision at UT Arlington on Friday evening.
Anna Kincaid paced the Mountaineers (7-14, 3-6 SBC) with 10 kills and a .318 hitting percentage.
Lulu Ambrose hit .222 and added seven kills.
McCall Denny added seven kills and six digs and
Victoria Wilform also had six kills.
Sophie Cain dished out 19 assists and added seven digs, while
Emma Reilly finished with a team-best eight digs.
In the opening set, the Mountaineers used a 3-0 run early to build an 8-4 lead. The Mavericks (6-12, 4-5 SBC) responded later with a 5-0 run to jump in front 12-10. UTA pushed its lead to 19-15, before App State countered with a 5-1 run to knot the score at 20-20. The Mountaineers jumped in front 23-22 on a block assist from
Daryn Armstrong and Denny, but the Mavericks answered with three straight points to win the opening set 25-23.
After the Black and Gold scored the first two points of the second set, UT Arlington answered with five consecutive points to take a 5-2 lead. The Mavericks expanded their lead to nine points at 19-10, before the Mountaineers answered with five straight points to pull within four at 19-15. UTA scored five of the next seven points to open a 24-17 edge. App State fought off four set points, but UTA used a kill to clinch the frame by a 25-20 count.
Set 3 saw App State take a 4-2 lead, only to see UTA respond with four straight points to take a 6-4 lead. Following a Kincaid kill, the Mavericks scored five consecutive points to build an 11-5 advantage. App State scored the next two points, but UTA answered with a 5-1 run to open a 16-8 edge. The Mountaineers pulled within four points at 20-16, but could get no closer, dropping the set 25-19.
The Mountaineers have a quick turnaround and will take on Sun Belt West Division leader Texas State on Saturday at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN+.
