TROY, Ala. - App State women's basketball fell to Troy, 85-65, on Saturday afternoon at Trojan Arena.

App State falls to 4-4 and 1-1 in Sun Belt play while the Trojans improve to 5-4 and 1-1 in league action.

Four players scored in double figures with Lainey Gosnell scoring a team-high 13 points and grabbing a team-best six rebounds. Haile McDonald turned in a season-high 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting in nine minutes. Faith Alston put in a career-high 11 points with five buckets. The duo combined for 23 points on 10-for-17 shooting off the bench.

Pre Stanley rounded out the leading scorers with 11. Brooke Bigott dished out a season-high five assists on top of eight points.

The first quarter set the tone for the rest of the game, where the Trojans shot 57.1 percent in the period to take a 27-10 lead going into the second frame.

App State slowly sliced the gap going into the break, dwindling the deficit to 14 following a free throw from Gosnell. A 10-4 surge to start the second half was sparked by Gosnell scoring the first seven points of the run before Bigott nailed a trifecta to bring the Troy lead to single digits, 47-39.

The momentum App was building would stop there, as Troy extended the lead back to double digits and pulled away the rest of the way for the win.

Tyasia Moore led four Trojans in double figures with 22 points.

Despite the loss, the Mountaineers were able to leave Alabama with a split. App State returns to action next weekend when it travels to face Georgia Southern in Statesboro.
