Â
OFFENSE
Â
Even with a shorthanded roster, the App State offense clicked off season highs with 52 points, 535 total yards and 404 rushing yards. It was the team's most points and total yards since last year's 56-27 win at Georgia State. The 404 rushing yards were the most since a 2018 win over Gardner-Webb.
Â
Getting the start with
Marcus Williams Jr. and
Camerun Peoples both unavailable, junior RB
Daetrich Harrington made the most of his opportunity with career highs in rushing yards (211), attempts (32), touchdowns (4) and longest rush (40).
Â
Harrington's four rushing touchdowns were the most by an App State player since legendary QB Armanti Edwards had four against Furman in 2009. The last player with 200+ rushing yards in a game was current Tennessee Titans RB
Darrynton Evans last year against Charlotte.
Â
True freshman
Nate Noel, making his college debut, rushed 14 times for 131 yards and a touchdown. We'll be checking the archives to find out if that is the first 100-yard rushing effort in a Mountaineer debut.
Â
Two App State players rushed for more than 100 yards for the second time this year.
Marcus Williams Jr. and
Camerun Peoples ran for 117 and 102, respectively, in the opener against Charlotte.
Â
Shifting to the offensive side of the ball from outside linebacker, true freshman
Anderson Castle rushed eight times for 42 yards in his first college snaps at running back. Redshirt-freshman
Ben Williams also earned his first career carries (two for 6 yards).
Â
Senior backup QB
Jacob Huesman scored his first career rushing touchdown on an 8-yard bootleg in the fourth quarter.
Â
Junior WR
Jake Henry's first two career catches were both on third-down conversions to move the sticks.
Â
In his first career start, redshirt-freshman WR
Dashaun Davis recorded his first career catches. He finished the game with six catches for 40 yards, hauling in all six targets.
Â
True freshman
Eli Wilson had his first career catch in his college debut.
Â
DEFENSE
Â
The App State defense entered the game as the nation's leader in opponent completion percentage (40.0) and passes defended (18). Against Campbell, the Mountaineers allowed just 8 of 20 passes to be completed (40.0) and racked up five more PBUs.
Â
Senior CB
Shemar Jean-Charles, the nation's leader in PBUs, added two more to go with four tackles.
Â
Making the start at OLB in his college debut, true freshman
Jalen McLeod had four tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.
Â
Clemson grad transfer
Tristan Walliser and ILB
Trey Cobb both recorded the first solo sacks of their App State careers.
