BOONE, N.C. -- App State sophomore
Sarah Sandreuter posted a PR in the 5K to lead the Mountaineers to the team title at the Mountains to Sea Open on Friday evening at the Don Kennedy Trails.
The Mountaineers finished with 25 points, with Charlotte finishing second with 32 points and Western Kentucky placing third with 77 points.
Sandreuter crossed second overall for App State in a 5K PR of 17:42.40, bettering her previous mark of 18:38.6.
Lisha Van Onselen was right behind in third place with a time of 17:48.02 and
Lila Peters was fourth in a PR time of 17:58.64.
Izzy Evely was sixth overall in 18:12.45.
"Our top four did exactly what we asked," said head coach
Michael Curcio. "Based on how we competed today, we are already where we want to be at this point in our competition. We saw some great performances with
Sarah Sandreuter finishing first on the team and posting a new PR and
Faith Younts stepping up with a great PR."
Younts also recorded a top-10 finish, crossing 10th overall in a PR time of 18:41.50.
Madison Christy,
Taylor Houston and
Bridget Kunkel placed 12th, 13th and 14th in 18:53.25 (PR), 19:00.40 (PR) and 19:02.03, respectively.
App State will compete next at the Live at Lou Cross Country Classic on Oct. 3. The women's race is slated for 10:15 a.m. and will feature teams from the ACC, Big 12, Conference USA and SEC.
