BOONE, N.C. - App State suffered a 7-1 setback to Pitt on Sunday afternoon at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
App State falls to 0-2 while Pitt moves to 2-0 on the season.
Lindsey Poff highlighted the setback with her first-career goal in the second half of the contest as she rebounded a
Tess Cairney penalty kick in the 76th minute. Cairney tallied her first assist of the season.
The Panthers struck first in the first 13 minutes of the contest before scoring three more times to go into the break with a 4-0 lead. Pitt tacked on three goals in the second period. Anna Rico led the visitors with a pair of goals while five other student-athletes found the net.
Five of the six shots that were on frame came in the second half but only capitalized on the Poff score. Six Mountaineers had one shot on goal.
Mary Perkins and
Izzi Wood both attemped two shots to lead the team in attempts.
Kerry Eagleston played the first half between the posts before
Jazz Salters played her first collegiate contest in the second frame at goalkeeper.
App State returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 17 against Georgia State in the Sun Belt opener at 5 p.m.
