BOONE, N.C. - App State women's soccer fell to Georgia State in overtime, 2-1, in the Sun Belt opener on Thursday evening at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
Appalachian falls to 0-3 on the year and 0-1 in Sun Belt play while Georgia State improves to 2-0 and 1-0 in league action.
The score was 0-0 in the first frame until
Drew Hallum found the back of the net in the 43rd minute to give the Black and Gold a 1-0 lead. It's the first-career goal for Hallum after freshman
Izzi Wood tallied the assist and her first collegiate point.
The Black and Gold went into the break with a 1-0 edge, and held the visitors scoreless until GSU's Jolie Ryff tied up the contest in the 84th minute.
App State was unable to get a clean look in overtime with Wood's shot in the first period being the only attempt. Liz Fogarty lifted the Panthers to the win with her
goal in the first three minutes of the second overtime.
The Mountaineers attempted a season-high 11 shots but only four of the shots were on goal. App State held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks over GSU. Wood led
the team with three shot attempts while
Megan Gregg and
Holly Beaver tallied a shot on goal.
Kerry Eagleston posted six saves in 90 minutes with five coming in the second half.
Appalachian aims to even the weekend on Sunday against Georgia Southern at 12 p.m. in Statesboro.
