BOONE, N.C. – Ten of App State Athletics' varsity teams with Academic Progress Rate (APR) data recorded perfect single-year scores of 1,000 for the 2018-19 cycle, according to information released Tuesday by the NCAA.
In alphabetical order by sport, the programs with a perfect single-year score after the completion of the 2018-19 academic year were men's basketball, men's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, volleyball, women's cross country, women's golf, women's soccer, women's tennis and women's track and field.
App State's 10 perfect single-year scores tied ULM for first place in the Sun Belt Conference.
All of App State's varsity teams possess multiyear (four-year) APR scores above 950. Teams must have a multiyear average of at least 930 to be eligible to compete in championships, and the multiyear APRs are based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
Last week, based on multiyear performance, App State led the Sun Belt and set a school record with five teams receiving Public Recognition Awards.
The men's basketball, men's cross country, women's golf, women's soccer and women's tennis programs at App State each received a Public Recognition Award for posting multiyear scores in the top 10 percent of their respective sports. Men's cross country, women's golf, women's soccer and women's tennis all had perfect multiyear scores of 1,000, while the multiyear average of 990 for men's basketball tied for 35th place in a sport with 350 programs.
In the 15 years of the Public Recognition Awards program, App State's previous high was four recipients, most recently in 2019. Women's golf earned a Public Recognition Award for the seventh straight year, while it was the fourth straight year with a Public Recognition Award for women's tennis and women's soccer. Men's cross country was a repeat selection, and men's basketball last received a Public Recognition Award in 2007.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term. The most recent multiyear APRs are based on scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.
