Softball Beats Southeastern Louisiana 4-3 in Midweek Matchup

HAMMOND, LA. – The App State softball team defeated Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday night, taking down the Lions, 4-3. The Mountaineers used double digit hits and solid defense to post their 13th win of the season.
 
With the win, App State moves to 13-9. Southeastern Louisiana falls to 15-8.
 
Pitchers Sydney Holland and Kenzie Longanecker combined for the win, with Holland (8-2) receiving the win and Longanecker notching her first save of the year. In 4.1 innings of work, Holland gave up three runs on five hits and one walk. Longanecker threw the final 2.2 and gave up two hits with no walks.
 
The Mountaineers struck first, scoring a run in the top of the first off of a double from Taylor thorp She scored Keri White, who singled up the middle. The Lions answered in the bottom of the second off of three hits and two Mountaineer errors, taking a 3-1 lead.
 
A lead change would happen again in the third, as Emily Parrott singled through the left side to start the rally. White walked and Baylee Morton singled to load the bases. Thorp also singled to score Parrott. A sacrifice fly from Russell and a single from Kifer would score the tying and game-winning run for App State.
 
From there, the Mountaineer defense shut down the Lions for the win. Kifer made a great defensive play at shortstop in the bottom of the fifth to keep the lead, throwing out the tying run at home plate.
 
Seven different Mountaineers ended the game with a hit, as Morton, Thorp and Kifer ended the game with two.
 
For the Lions, Alley McDonald received the loss in the circle, giving up the game-winning run in the third. Tanner Wright started the game and pitched one inning, giving up one run. McDonald gave up three runs in her 1.1 innings of work. Heather Zumo threw the final 4.2 innings, not giving up any runs. Cameron Goodman led the team offensively with two hits.
 
The Mountaineers finish the road trip with a Sun Belt series at No. 7 Louisiana from March 13-15.
