KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – App State men's basketball dropped a 79-38 decision at No. 10 Tennessee on Tuesday evening.
Michael Almonacy paced the Mountaineers with a team high nine points, a team high tying six rebounds and a team leading three assists.
Kendall Lewis chipped in with eight points and
R.J. Wilson knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to finish with six points and a career high tying four rebounds off the bench.
Donovan Gregory had five points and a team high tying six rebounds and
Adrian Delph also had five points.
Tennessee (3-0) scored the first 13 points of the game to take control early. App State used a quick 6-2 spurt, getting four points from Almonacy during the run, to pull within 18-6. The Volunteers countered with the next 10 points and pushed their lead to 36-13 at the break.
After App State scored the first three points of the second half, Tennessee responded with nine straight points to build a 29-point lead and put the game away.
Victor Bailey Jr. led four Volunteers in double figures with a game high 13 points. Jaden Springer and John Fulkerson each had 12 points and Josiah-Jordan James finished with 11 points.
App State will return to the High Country for back-to-back home games against Greensboro College on Thursday and Columbia International on Friday. Both games will begin at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Appalachian Sports Network from Learfield IMG College.
