MOBILE, Ala. - App State women's soccer ended the weekend with a 3-0 setback to South Alabama on Sunday afternoon at The Cage.
App State falls to 3-8-1 overall and 3-6 in Sun Belt play, while South Alabama improves to 6-3 and 6-2 in league action.
Like the first meeting between the two foes, the Mountaineers held off the South Alabama offense in the first half as the score was tied, 0-0, going into the break. However, USA did its damage in the second half with three scores.
Kerry Eagleston had an active first period as she stopped nine South Alabama shots on goal including multiple diving saves and at times back-to-back stops. The nine saves this season sets a season high for the sophomore.
A span of 10 minutes early in the second period was the difference with Brenna McPartlan scoring off a penalty kick in the 55th minute. Ana Helmert scored for the hosts five minutes later before Gracie Wilson tacked on the third goal in the 65th minute.
Kirsten Seeley fired off a shot on goal in the 62nd minute while
Emma McGibany also tallied a shot on goal with 30 seconds left in the contest, but Anita Gudmundsdottir made saves on both shots.
Kelli Bostick played in her first collegiate contest between the posts, seeing 16 minutes of action.
App State concludes the regular season next Sunday, Oct. 25 at noon against Coastal Carolina.
