Women's Soccer Downs Coastal Carolina on Senior Day

BOONE, N.C. - App State ended the regular season with a 1-0 win over Coastal Carolina on Senior Day at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.

The Mountaineers improve to 4-8-1 on the season and 4-6 in Sun Belt play while Coastal Carolina falls to 5-4 overall and in the league.

App finishes fourth in the East Division and will await its opponent for the Sun Belt Championship starting on Monday, Nov. 4 in Foley, Ala.

Both teams had clean looks at the back of the net, but it wasn't until the 87th minute when Hayley Boyles' shot in the box went off a CCU player into the goal for the score.

Kerry Eagleston tallied six saves for her fifth clean sheet of the season, moving the sophomore into a tie for seventh place in program history for shutouts in a single season.

CCU came out on the attack with four of its six shots on goal in the first 35 minutes of the contest with Eagleston stopping all four attempts, including a penalty kick in the early goings of the contest.

Tess Cairney and Olivia Cohen had a chance to break the 0-0 tie but Ky Hudson came up with stops on both attempts.

App State came out firing with eight shots in the second half. The Mountaineers had a perfect opportunity in the 76th minute to take the lead as Kirsten Seeley's corner met with Jordan Rountree. Hudson stopped the shot right at the goal to keep the score tied.

The Mountaineer defense, who posted their fifth shutout of the season,  kept the CCU offense at bay as it only attempted three shots in the second half.

Appalachian out shot the visitors, 12-10 while attempting seven corners.

Cairney led the way with three shots while Cohen and Boyles each had a pair of attempts.

Seniors Mary Perkins, Gabbie Cormier and Amber Anderson were honored before the game for Senior Day.
