POSTGAME NOTES (App State 56, Charlotte 41)

TEAM
The 56-41 win against Charlotte tied for the fifth-most total points in an App State game, topped only by a 115-0 win against Piedmont in 1936, a 59-56 loss to Chattanooga in 2004 (115 points), a 79-35 win against Western Carolina in 2007 (114 points) and a 55-48 loss to Liberty in 2014 (103 total points). There were also a combined 97 points in a 52-45 loss at ULM in 2017.Â
Appalachian State extended its winning streak to eight games dating back to last year, tied with Ohio State for second-longest in the nation behind Clemson's 17.
The Mountaineers' 12-game winning streak at Kidd Brewer Stadium is tied for the nation's eighth-longest home winning streak.
Since the start of the 2015 season, App State leads all Group of Five teams with 43 wins, collecting only 11 losses during that span. The 43-11 record is seventh-best among all FBS teams.
App State improved to 94-17 in its last 111 home games dating back to 2003 and 27-5 at home as an FBS program.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Darrynton Evans is now in sole possession of first place in App State history with three kickoff returns for a touchdown in his career. Jimmy Watkins had both of his two touchdowns in 2000. Evans scored on a 94-yard kickoff return in the Camellia Bowl as a true freshman in 2016 and had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Penn State in the 2018 opener.

Darrynton Evans posted a career-high 298 all-purpose yards with 234 rushing yards and 64 kick return yards. His previous high of 218 all-purpose yards occurred in last year's Sun Belt Championship Game, where he had 111 rushing yards and 107 kick return yards.

D'Marco Jackson scored on a punt that was blocked by
Shaun Jolly. It was App State's first touchdown via a punt block since
Steven Jones recovered his own block in the end zone against Gardner-Webb last season.

Jalen Virgil gained 45 yards on the first kickoff return of his career.

Chandler Staton improved to 106-for-106 on extra points in his career.

Xavier Subotsch had a 44-yard punt returned for a loss of 1 yard, a 48-yard punt that was returned for a loss of 13 yards, a 46-yard punt that was fair-caught and a 48-yard punt that was fair-caught.

OFFENSE
Â
Darrynton Evans rushed for a career-high 234 yards on 19 carries, topping his previous high of 183 yards in last year's regular season home win against Louisiana.

Evans' 234 rushing yards are the 17th-highest single-game total in App State history and the third-most for a player with less than 20 carries. DeAndre Presley had 264 yards on 16 attempts against Western Illinois in 2010, and
Jalin Moore rushed for 241 yards on 19 carries against New Mexico State in 2017.

Darrynton Evans has rushed for at least 100 yards in eight of his last 11 games, and that includes a 99-yard game against East Tennessee State in the 2019 opener.

Evans' 87-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage topped his previous long run of 79 yards against Texas State in 2018. It was the fifth-longest rush in App State history and the longest one since DeAndre Presley had an 89-yard run against Western Illinois in 2010.

Zac Thomas had three touchdown passes with no interceptions for the third time in his career and the second time against Charlotte. Last year, in addition to doing it against Charlotte, he accomplished the feat against Georgia State.

Thomas has completed 68.2 percent of his passes this season with totals of five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Malik Williams recorded career highs for single-game catches (six) and receiving yards (73). He previous highs were four catches (against Texas State in 2017 and Penn State in 2018) and 68 receiving yards (at Texas State in 2017).

DEFENSE
Â
App State had held nine straight opponents to less than 20 points in Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Shaun Jolly recorded his first career interception when he picked off a pass with 57 seconds remaining.

Demetrius Taylor and
Noel Cook each recorded career highs of 2.5 tackles for loss. Cook's previous high of 2.0 happened twice last season, including the win at Charlotte.

Nick Hampton had half a sack in the 2019 opener and contributed 1.5 sacks Saturday, sharing one with
Akeem Davis-Gaither.

Trey Cobb had a career-high six tackles in his second career start at linebacker.
